In a effort to keep from having a 3-hour episode of 3 Count Radio, we did part one of the couple of weeks in wrestling in episode 03, the AEW edition. This episode is part two, NXT boogaloo ... with a sprinkle of WWE Fastlane and the like.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE POKEMON?
Yes, believe it or not ... we opened the show with the hot topic of what our favorite pokemon were! We also want to know what yours is! Hop over the facebook page and drop your favorite pokemon in the thread.
Mike's favorite is Charmander and Ainsley's favorite is Togepi.
THE NXT NO MERCY OPEN VIDEO BASED ON THE OLD N64 GAME
ILJA DRAGUNOV'S IN-RING PRESENTATION (STRIKING, SELLING, ECT) IS INCREDIBLE.
There is no one in all of wrestling that is doing the things that Ilja Dragunov is doing in the ring. Here are the WWE's youtube highlights from the match ... but do yourself a favor and watch the whole damn thing on Peacock.
"Proving it's not just a clever name, The way that Dragunov drags himself around the ring... is next level stuff."
-"Detroit" Mike
THIS IS A GUPPY.
3 COUNT RADIO SOAPBOX MOMENT: STRATTON'S RING GEAR
Mike and Ainsley talk about how it's surprising that now in 2023, Tiffany Stratton wrestled her extreme rules match at No Mercy in very sexualized ring gear (mostly on the posterior.) We both hope that kind of decision is made with Tiffany's non-pressurized input, and not from higher ups that expect her to wrestle looking a certain way. No matter what, they choice, especially for an extreme rules match, was a very poor one.
To me, it was more disgusting than Becky Lynch's open wound of sinew and layers of fat...
-Ainsley (Paraphrase In regard to Tiffany Stratton's Ring Gear)
AINSLEY'S "FAVORITE" MATCH OF ALL TIME
CHRIS JERICHO VS. THE HART DYNASTY IN A 2 on 1 HANDICAP STEEL CAGE MATCH
"You know I love a good broken match..."
-Ainsley (In regard to the Tag Team Fatal 4-Way Match)
BRON BREAKKER'S ENTRANCE FROM NO MERCY WAS ... INTERESTING
Clearly, a choice was made on the dog mask / hood that Bron wore at the beginning of his entrance, and it wasn't the correct one. How no one told him how bad and cheesy it looked is beyond me.
Why couldn't they have given Tom Savini a call? He is a horror movie special effects master and who created masks for The Fiend, Luke Harper, and others in the past. I'm sure they could commission a wolf/dog mask, something that Bron could continue to wear in the future. How awesome would that have looked?
DRAGON LEE GETS CHUMPED OUT AS THE SPECIAL GUEST REF
Speaking of terrible things, how in the world was Dragon Lee laid out with a single superkick for 5 minutes during the Dom and Trick match as the guest ref? Isn't that the entire reason to have a guest ref? So this doesn't happen?
"I'm half-convinced that's why they sent Dragon Lee to Smackdown because he can't show his face around NXT anymore."
-"Detroit" Mike ( on Dragon Lee getting laid out with the superkick )
DOMINICK MYSTERIO HAS YET ANOTHER GREAT MATCH VS. ILJA DRAGUNOV
"I really hope that kid Ilja Dragunov can hang with the seasoned vet Dominick Mysterio."
- "Detroit" Mike
JOHN CENA DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THE NXT CROWD SINGING HIS SONG
I don't think that John Cena could have been more giddy about the NXT crowd during his entrance.
THE BEST UNDERTAKER APPERANCE IN YEARS
All of the cameos at NXTmania! were very tastefully done. Yes, they were there to draw viewers away from the special AEW show ... but HBK took full advantage of them to put his talent over. Bron Breakker stepping to the Undertaker and taking the compliment chokeslam sandwich was the literal best use of the Undertaker being on the show possible. Bravo Shawn.
IS THIS ACTUALLY CARLITO?
Ainsley is not convinced that it was Carlito who made the run in at Fastlane. He's older, sure ... but he's beyond jacked now and his face looks different ... even from he made the appearance at Backlash.
"DETROIT" MIKE MAKES A RIDICULOUS CLAIM
So... to drive home a point this week, I made an absurd claim that I have to eat some crow for. While we were talking about Cena playing "Face in Peril," I said that term only applies to tag team wrestling. Ainsley argued, but then I said I was the one who coined the phrase ... that was absolutely not true. That phrase has been around for decades before I said it ... I have no idea what I was thinking. Maybe it's because we used the phrase so much on the first run of 3 Count Radio, and I don't hear it very much these days. While I may have been correct in the tag team statement... I made myself look freaking moronic while doing so.
"I'm an absolute stupid idiot."
-"Detroit" Mike, Right now.
WAS THE REF'S COUNT AT WWE FASTLANE TOO FAST DURING LAST MAN STANDING?
I thought the ref was counting way too fast, causing Seth and Shin to undersell some pretty big bumps in the match by having to meet the 10-count. Even though I mentioned it to Ainsley before they watched the match ... she didn't notice anything distracting about the speed of the count. Am I crazy?
The ref was very distracting during this match, whereas the ref in the Texas Death Match in AEW wasn't at all.
